DESCRIPTION:Interpretive hike with docent Caryn Lowe.  \n“Methinks that the moment my legs begin to move\, my thoughts begin to flow!” -Thoreau.  \nScience is proving what people have known for ages – going out into nature is one of the best ways to connect with your creative mind. Mt. Tam has been a special place of inspiration for many generations of artists and writers from early settlers from the Hudson Valley to the Bohemian and Beat movements. During this hike you will learn a little bit about this rich history\, what happens here today and hopefully make your own creative connection to Mt. Tam.  There will be a 30 minute stop at West Point Inn to jot down your thoughts or simply pause and take in the view.  \nHIKE ROUTE\nStart at Pantoll Parking Lot;  Old Mine Trail to Mountain Theater; Rock Spring Trail to West Point Inn; Old Stage Road to Pantoll Parking Lot \nDistance (mi): 4.5. Elevation Gain (ft): 500. Moderate.

SUMMARY:March 15th: Quad 4 - West Point Inn Hike. 4.7 miles/ 500 ft elevation gain
DESCRIPTION:This hike is part of the Quad 4 program. Upon completing all 4 epic hikes\, you will have covered 21 miles and climbed 4300 feet in the Mt Tamalpais State Park. Most importantly you will earn a commemorative pin. \nThis hike is limited to 19 people. Please sign up via Meet-up.\nIt will be led by Docent Franklin Young. Hike docents have been trained under the California State Parks Volunteers in the Park Program (VIPP).\n\n\nTrails: Old Mine to Rock Spring trail to West Point Inn to Nora to Matt Davis to Bootjack \n\nMeeting place: Bootjack by the bathroom. There is a $8 parking fee. Helpful to have exact change. Parking is  limited so please carpool or take Marin Transit Bus 61 at Almonte & Shoreline Hwy (Tam Junction) or Manzanita.  It will drop you off at Bootjack just before 9AM. \n \nStart time: 9 AM \n\n\nExpected Return: 12:30PM\n\nModerate pace\n\nBring water and snacks. West Point Inn has hot drinks and snacks for sale.

DESCRIPTION:The 5th Annual Friends of Mt Tam Science Quest Day will be on September 12\, 2025.  Experts in Fire Science\, Lichenology\, Botany\, Ornithology\, Geology\, Meteorology\, and Astronomy will provide in person experiences to highlight how science can deepen our understanding of our environment.    \nThe day will begin at 7:30am with a Master Birder led hike and wrap up with an amazing Star Party from 6:30 – 9:00pm.  In between are more than 15 exciting and truly unique experiences.   \nThere will be a very limited number of slots available for each event.    \nNEW THIS YEAR  \nMore Kid Events\nBring your kids (and their friends and their scout group).  Junior Ranger\, Geology\, Bingo\, Science Quest Trivia Night\, and “Into The Woods At The One Tam Van” are all kid (7-12 years old) friendly. \n20% off all Merchandise and Flash Sales\nFriends of Mt Tam members receive 20% off all merchandise at Pantoll and East Peak.
